If you are a grade school social studies teacher interested in touring the Freedom Trail with your students, or have done so in the past with another guide, consider the remarkable benefits of working with Ben:

  • Ben is a knowledgeable, engaging, and fun tour guide. Your students will be intrigued with his family ties to Paul Revere and the fact that Ben’s ancestors walked the same cobblestone streets as Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and Samuel Adams!
  • During the tour your students will hold and read some wonderful primary sources including rare documents signed by John Hancock and participants in the Boston Tea Party, along with original colonial newspapers with ads for Paul Revere’s many businesses.
  • Ben is a children’s book author and gifted storyteller who presents history in a fashion that increases retention, supporting and enhancing the material you’re teaching in the classroom.
  • Each of your students will receive Ben’s children’s book One April in Boston, that tells the real story of Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride and covers the start of the American Revolution, in eBook and MP3 audio formats, in advance of the field trip.

Bonus Items for Teachers

Teachers booking a spring field trip receive Four Bonus Items: The print version of One April in Boston, the book in MP3 audio format, a wonderful audio recording of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” by award-winning narrator Phil Rosenthal, and FREE Zoom or Google Meet sessions for your students over the winter months (January-March). These sessions cover key aspects of the Freedom Trail, Boston history, and Ben’s children’s book serving to enhance the in-person field trip experience. Testimonials From Teachers

Our fifth grade students have been participating in Ben’s Historic Walking Tour of Boston for the past ten years. Each year, this trip is a fan favorite of students, parents, and teachers alike. Ben is a talented tour guide, delivering information in an engaging, yet kid-friendly way. He hooks the kids immediately and they stay hooked from start to finish! He uses valuable primary sources to bring students back in time as we visit historic landmarks. Ben is an expert in the field and we are already looking forward to next year’s tour! I’ve also recommended Ben’s private tours to friends visiting from out of town and friends who just love history!

We were VERY lucky to have Ben as our tour guide! My school took our 5th graders to Boston to walk along the Freedom Trail. Throughout the day, Ben gave away gifts and prizes, showed pictures and historical documents, and made the learning so enjoyable and interactive. He was very personable with the kids and they loved learning from him! We had such a wonderful experience and I (along with the other staff members) cannot wait to be back again next year. 🙂

Years ago, I began a tradition of taking my fifth grade class on a tour of the Freedom Trail. I struggled to provide a worthwhile experience for my students, acting as guide and teacher. One year I stumbled upon Ben Edwards’ Walking Boston internet link and decided to try a guided tour instead. My students and I were so impressed by Ben’s breadth of knowledge of and enthusiasm for the history of Boston! He was funny, engaging and totally at ease with both my students and their parents. Each year, Ben has added something new to his repertoire, and his tour gets even better! I would recommend Ben Edwards wholeheartedly and without reservation!

My fifth grade class was enthralled by the magic of our American history that Ben Edwards relates. I travel from Cape Cod with my class each year so they can have an outdoor classroom with Ben. He makes the book reading and rigorous research of the classroom come alive and have true meaning. Ben takes care to know what I have been teaching, then puts the lessons in a fast-paced tour that encompasses answering all the students’ questions, seeing everything and playing a learning game. Ben’s knowledge is boundless, his tours never bore me although it has probably been yearly tours for eight years. Ben stays aware of new events, historical finds, and special things to see and know about.

Our school took the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades on this trip last week. Ben was amazing! He was enthusiastic, engaging, and of course, very knowledgeable! The students absolutely loved it. Ben was also easy to communicate with while planning the field trip, and he was accommodating and flexible when we had to reschedule. Thank you Ben!
